How did he get lost in the woods? He owned a plantation in the area so he should have known the area.
If we took this question out of Farquhar's hallucination and said it was real life, I think there are many reasons. Like your last sentence sort of explains why he may have not recognized where he was. As an owner of a Plantation Farquhar would have been totally able to just stay inside and have other foreman take care of his land. Also while he traveled around in his carriage, Farquhar may have been busy with paper work not examining the world around him. This road Farquhar was on also could have been a road that was rarely traveled. There is also obvious holes in this idea, because he may have been a true nature lover. We are not given these facts, so I guess this is a total guessing game or your personal preference.
ReplyDeleteAs Peyton is dying he’s hallucinating these things. His brain isn’t working properly so what he knew or what he knows is altered. His thoughts aren’t clear and his mind is just drifting.
ReplyDeleteThat is a good point Summer! I agree. I think that because he is not thinking straight, his mind has probably forgotten many things. He is so focused on what he wishes to see most before he leaves the earth.. his wife. So even if he was truly familiar with the area, his knowledge of it may have slipped his mind at this moment.
